NEW PARENT INFORMATION
Welcome to the Spartan Alliance Band family. We are very excited to have you join us as we assist our children during one of the most exciting and rewarding events of their high school career. Please note:
As a band parent, please do your best to:
Parent questions are always welcome. The band has many volunteers in place to guide you through the experience. Contact our Band Manager, Sarah Johnson, at [email protected] with any student/parent/volunteer/etc. questions.
- The parent meeting in July is required. Please watch your email for more information and make plans to attend.
- Students are not excused from band camp for registration. Please plan to register at the end of the day after band camp.
- Freshmen Orientation is also during band camp. Freshmen students should report to band camp. All freshmen are dismissed at the appropriate time for orientation. After orientation, freshmen must return to band camp.
As a band parent, please do your best to:
- Be supportive of your child as they adjust to high school and to the demands of marching band season. Attend competitions and cheer for the band. Your cheering takes them to the next level. Please do not shout out individual names. They perform as an ensemble.
- Ensure that your child arrives at practice on time. He/she should arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the start of practice. This allows him/her to get out their instruments or flags and walk to the practice field before practice begins.
- Clear their calendar. Doctor appointments, dentist appointments, jobs, and other appointments should not conflict with practice.
- Read your email and the newsletter. We do our best to keep your informed.
- Make sure your child eats well.
- Participate. There are many ways to get involved. Your help is always needed and we are always having fun. With a group this size, we always need help. Make sure you do your part. You'll be rewarded in ways you never expected.
- Do not post videos of the band online. We are a competitive band program.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR BAND CAMP
WATER is the most important thing to remember for band camp, as well as, the entire season. Staying well hydrated can help prevent heat exhaustion, stomachaches, headaches, injuries, and many other illnesses. For your sake, as well as the entire band program, please be certain to drink plenty of water. Begin by drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning and drink water throughout the morning during practice, as well as in the evenings. Bring a water JUG, not just a single bottle of water. Do not share drinks.
Apply sunscreen in the morning about a half hour before arriving. Apply repeatedly during breaks and lunch to prevent burning.
Wear light-colored, comfortable shorts and tee shirts. White or light colors do not absorb the heat like black or other dark colors. Also, wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your head and eyes. Wear socks and tennis shoes!
Students are given an hour for lunch each day. They may pack a lunch or go out, with permission from parents. Everyone MUST be back on time for the afternoon portion of camp.
Bring your instrument every day in good condition. Also bring any accessories required for your instrument such as valve oil, reeds, etc. If you have a problem with your instrument, please contact Quinlan & Fabish Music Store for assistance. They may be able to provide a loaner instrument while yours is in for repair.
